- Who is Francisco Goya, what is his art style, and what is his influence?
- Francisco Goya is a Spanish painter and printmaker, also know as an important artist back in the 18thh and 19th centuries. He was born on March 30th, 1746 in Fuendetodos, Spain and passed away on April 16th, 1828 at the age of 82, the cause of death being an attack of cerebral thrombosis. In terms of what art style Goya does, he takes a more Classicism and Realism approach, making paintings like The Third of May 1808, Saturn Devouring His Son, and The Naked Maja. Throughout his career, he was influenced by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Anton Raphael Mengs, and Diego Velazquez.

- How does Hughes break down and look into Goya’s life?
-Throughout the film, Hughes brought up that Goya’s unpredictable when it comes to his art. He also brought up Goya’s family life, saying that his mother was pregnant, while his father was still working, also showing off his parent’s housing as well. He explains the upbringing with Goya, saying that his father was a gilder, where he got contacts from other professional artists. He would also describe that to only was he a great artist, he was also suffering from his personal health. He brought up that Goya suffered from an illness, but lead to him having lead poisoning from his paints and started suffering from a loss of hearing. But his condition would soon get worse as he got older, suffering from paralysis, loss of hearing, etc.

- How did Hughes’s film analyze Goya’s pieces of his artwork and his life? What are the key points that Hughes pointed out?
- Throughout the film, Hughes was talking about the paintings Goya made and brought up that there was a lot of looming backgrounds, shadows, silhouettes, that gives it a dark-like feel to one of his pieces. He also stated that it was just Goya’s world whenever he started making some of his artwork involving women, only Goya’s fantasy and not her’s. Hughes also talked to different people throughout the film about Goya, responding to his artwork, and mentioned about his physical health, saying how he recovered, but a part of him said that he wanted to be free from working with the women he had to work for. Another person stated that he was also political, saying that he made other works of art in the political point of view as well.
