Lecture 1: Renaissance
- What is The Renaissance?
The Renaissance is an art period that started in the 14th century and ended in the 17th century. The Renaissance originated at Florence, Italy, following through the Middle Ages and the Dark Ages as well. The word Renaissance is another word for a rebirth, showing that Europe is out of the Dark Ages. It welcomed artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. In terms of the artwork that was made during the Renaissance, it’s famous pieces is stored in Florence, in it’s art galleries and palaces.

During the period of The Renaissance, there were a lot of contributions that occurred during that time period. One of which in terms of art would be Mannerism, using brighter colors and religious figures in their artwork as well. Another contribution that was used was perspective in the arts as well. It allowed new space to be configured in paintings whenever they’re being made. Perspective was discovered back in the day before three-dimensional art would be a thing in the art world. That would involve two dimensional figures, also using bright and pastel colors as well.
