- Who was Leonardo DaVinci?
Leonardo DaVinci was born on April 15th, 1452 in Anchiano, Italy, he lived with his father’s family during his childhood since his mother rejected him. Before he had a love for doing art, he always had a love of all things related to nature. DaVinci’s first major individual painting would be titled Annunciation in the mid 40s. He never was in any relationship, meaning he was never married nor did he have any children. He passed away on May 2nd, 1519 due to an acute stroke.
- What were his most significant contributions to art, society, science, or history? Give an example and support your statements with facts.
One of Leonardo DaVinci’s contributions in terms of art is making a painting called Annunciation, which would be commissioned by the nuns. While making the piece, he did research and studied on birds, feathers, wings, and made Gabriel’s wigs a lot more detailed in said painting, almost bringing it to life. Another painting he made was titled Portrait of Ginevra Benci, which was made in 1474, what makes the piece significant was because DaVinci was in his 20s, showing Leonardo’s development as a whole as well. One of DaVinci’s most recognizable pieces in the art world goes to the Mona Lisa, giving the viewer a bit of a illusion just by seeing the piece, one minute you see her looking a bit gloomy, while on the other had, it looks like she’s breaking out into a smile.
